ZERO REZD STORY...Clouds to Reality
My two earliest inspiring childhood memories were:
First, at age 3, looking out a bay window at the huge, awe-inspiring white clouds, against a clear blue sky. They are what dreams are made of! Of course, as my wife would agree, it helps to get your head out of them enough to bring the dream to reality.
For example Noah's ark was a HUGE success! He started with his head in the clouds, listening to God. Then he got his saw, hammer and nails and got to work. It saved his family and could have saved many others.
(Lesson: So, realize where worthwhile dreams are found, and be careful mocking dreamers--even if you don't like their message! Their 'silly' idea just might save your life.)
Second memory, at age 5, was looking at a shoebox and empty toilet paper rolls, and envisioning a Flintstone's-like toy car. Not big on the dream scale, yet revealed my future resourceful creativity. (Also revealed that there wasn't much to do around grandma's house, but eat good food and play with junk. Necessity truly is a mother to invention.)
Since those early years I have continued to enjoy the challenge of resurrecting what appeared to be dead:
like a worn bike tire = a marble game ring (what?);
like a click pen's spring replaced a rusted flashlight battery spring (huh?).
Yah, like "life hacks", with a zero waste goal.
I have also benefited, greatly, from others, who chose resourcefulness, like:
discount grocery stores; reuzit shops; yard sales, computer recycling center and metal scrap yards. The list goes on...
ZERO REZD MISSION -- Zero Waste
SO, WHAT IS "ZERO WASTE"?
...And why do we strive for it?
Why not just trash what we can't personally use anymore?
1. Resources and Products
First, let's start with the facts about the things that we waste.
We all use material resources and products of these materials. So, the things we need for physical life, are found either: a) directly from God's creation (like water, food, wood, metal, animals and by-products...), or
b) products we manufacture (like lamps, chairs, cars). These things help us live. They serve us and help us serve each other.
2. Creation Renews. We dispose.
All of His creation has a renewing lifecycle. Nothing is wasted. Death begets life. Animal waste can fertilize food growth. These things, which have come to the end of their current purpose, usually do not come back to life, yet they need not be wasted! No! They can help something else to live.
But, what currently happens when we use God's bountiful resources to create a product?
a) We may use this product once ( like a styrofoam cup for coffee). or
b) We may use it many times (like a coffee mug--which our child made in art class). At some point we have no use for it for even the reusables. So...
We trash it.
3. What happens to our trash?
Many trashed products don't decompose nor help to sustain life, on their own. Products need our help, to be useful again. Otherwise, they just sit on the ground or float down the river to the ocean. They don't fertilize our soil nor become healthy food for our oceans. Instead, they pollute the ground, air, water, and make living things sick or die.
It is almost impossible to recover any worth from these products again. It can also be dangerous or time-consuming to recover trashed resources. Dangerous, like finding a use for hazardous chemical waste. Or, time consuming, like collecting beach and ocean plastic--those fortunate plastics which did not sink, or get swallowed by fish.
Have you ever seen footage of the poorer areas of our world where people live on the outskirts of a busy disposable city, and scavenge the landfill to survive? They are living off of our disposable lifestyle.
4. Is there Hope?
If we are to recover any reusability from broken/discarded products...
If we want to keep healthy by keeping our food sources healthy...
If we want to have resources to sustain our life and our children's life, versus trashing it...
...then all we need is to tap into the same ingenuity* we used when we created the product. (https://www.dictionary.com/browse/ingenuity )
5. Renew the Resource.
This time we don't have to grow, dig up, or milk something, to make a product. Now our resource is right in front of us! It is the product we created. What's the obstacle? We just need to understand it's individual components, so it can be repaired & used, or recycled & repurposed. This is not always easy, with the increasing complexity of designs, using mixed materials--but, it's well worth the challenge!
Our planet will be clean and our resources will be renewably available when need them. In fact, the very attempt to save something from death, brings about a whole new ingenuity, which lasts longer that the ingenuity to create just for money.
(Proof: how thrilled are you with some of the "ingenious" products, made from virgin materials, only to break down on you, so you have to buy another one?How much more ingenious it would be to have designed the product to last and to have an efficient way to repair or recycle! Hmmm...?)
6. Good grief Charlie Brown!...
Unfortunately, durable, well functioning products, created to be reused and recycled, is not common. So, you might be thinking about the 'practicality' of this dreamy zero waste goal, hopelessly, like Charlie Brown's little red haired girl. You like the dream but it appears out of your reach. So, you say,
..."Sounds great and altruistic, but now what can I do?"
..."My product doesn't work well, and a professional repair costs almost as much as buying new!"
..."No one repairs this product!"
..."It's out of warranty!"
..."It's broken, beyond repair, in pieces, and I have no use for its parts!"
..."It has hazardous materials, which nobody wants! That big old TV! I can't even lift it!"
..."Can't put it in the recycling bin."
..."I just don't know what to do with it!"
..."Sorry, but it seems I have no other choice but to trash it or leave it sit around, collecting dust!"
"So much for saving the planet, Chuck!? I just 'chucked' it!
Where's your little red-haired girl, now, dreamer!?"
...Ugh! I feel ya there!
In these times, when we are in a round room and looking for the corner; when we just don't have the knowledge, skills, resources or time to invest in repurposing our things, we wish someone could just do it for us, or at least lend a hand to get there. Nobody around...
...or is there?
You have probably heard, "One Person's Trash is Someone's Else's Treasure." Again, sounds nice, but, "It's trash to me, so who can treasure it? I don't want to pollute, but don't know where to go?"
Enough already! I'm trashing it!
Can anybody help me, or is everyone just into making money!!"...
...Yes! and No! and glad you asked!

...Need it moved over, moved out, or taken to a place where someone can use it? Just ask?
...Low on funds to pay professionals? Zero Rezd will agree on an affordable price or fair exchange, for each service.
You may have something we need...then you MAY NOT NEED MONEY TO PAY. Imagine that!
8. A WORLD OF INTERDEPENDENCE
Although the world requires money for many things, yet the coins, the bills and the chip imbedded plastic cards are totally useless on their own. Can you wear 'em? sleep on 'em? eat 'em?
(OK, I am sure someone's tried this for the Guiness Record, or art project, but it's not practical nor nutritious. So, please don't!) Money is meaningless, unless someone considers it to be credit toward something they need or want. It will get much worse when we go totally cashless!
What we really need are the 'tools', the 'resources', the 'products' that money buys. And, even more valuable is knowledge, wisdom, and skill? Knowing how to access these resources, how to use them wisely, and having the skill to do it, brings life and health.
How would you survive if money disappeared? You would have to serve others with your God-given resources and skills. You would have to depend on others to do the same. This only happens in a family. Not everyone is family.
But we can still try to care for others. So, let's trade!
9. Let's do what we can, and trust for a miracle. Then continue to pay it forward.
At Zero Rezd we believe, as Christ Jesus taught, "Let nothing be wasted", (John 6:12).
He requested this of His followers, right after He miraculously provided food for thousands of hungry people. He did so through only a small gift of a child. We, too, like loved children, have been given resources and skills, to share with others. When we let God use them, He multiplies their effectiveness to serve many--nothing wasted. These gifts are to serve others and to share His love--not to be kept to ourselves, nor to serve only ourselves.
So, before you throw it out, ask God what to do with it. Does that sound odd? Well, if His own Son said not to waste His provision, maybe He also can provide you the ingenuity or the right people to keep it from being wasted.
And, if He leads you my way, I will join you on this adventure!
You’ll be greeted by a friendly face. I'll provide the highest level of service for any job you and I have agreed on.
